Mohammad Kamal's Profile

My academic and research background is following as an introductory profile: 1. Collaborator in one of the molecular biological project of type 2 diabetic-Alzheimer's Disease research as a Visiting Scholar at the University of Technology Sydney (10th July 2007 to 31st Dec 2009). 2. My U2000 Postdoctoral Fellowship research was at the cutting edge, i.e., focused at the inhibition of the rate-limiting enzyme, amido phosphoribosyltransferase, catalyses the first committed step of the de novo purine pathway. This is of critical and immediate relevance for the development of new selective antifolate-type inhibitors as effective anticancer drugs. I also developed a biochemical assay for the estimation of phosphoribosyl pyrophosphate (PRPP; substrate of amido phosphoribosyltransferase) during my research at the University of Sydney. Human leukemia cell line (CCRF-CEM) and mouse leukemia (mL1210) was used for estimation of the affect of antifolates on the enzyme of purine de novo biosynthesis, which is evident of my cell culture skills. 3. I was a Lecturer at Department of Chemistry, Gomal University, D. I. Khan, N.W.F.P, Pakistan. 4. My biochemistry skills are reflected by my publication record (58 refereed publications and 48 abstracts in different international and national conferences). These are additionally supported by international awards, as exemplified by the Sheikh Hamdan Bin Rashid Al Maktoum Award in 2004 for Medical Sciences. 5. A significant segment of my research career, 10 years, was spent within the Department of Biochemistry, King Saud University, elucidating the interaction of various chemicals and drugs (both anti-cancer and Alzheimer's agents) on the key enzyme acetylcholinesterase, which is fundamental to nervous system function and life. 6. My research PhD thesis was on Effect of some anti-cancer drugs on human erythrocyte acetylcholinesterase. The research work was based among anti-cancer drugs mostly focused on cyclophosphamide, methotrexate, cisplatin and its diaqua form (cis-diamminediaquaplatinum) as evident from the list of my publication. 7.
