| Job Details/Summary: | This is a contract to hire opportunity in the Frederick, MD area. Qualified candidates please apply. We are looking to set up interviews now! The Purification Chemist is responsible to manage and perform purification of crude peptides (5 to 50 amino acids) with preparative HPLC methods in order to obtain final peptide APIs that conform with the requested quality attributes. Strong interaction with peptide synthesis and quality control will be required. Summary of essential job functions • Evaluate the purification needs of crude peptides based on their impurity profiles and the required specifications • Develop purification methods with regards to cost efficiency, recovery yield and scalability to obtain final products that satisfy all quality requirements. • Perform scale-up, development and optimization work where needed. • Purify peptides from 10 mg up to 100 g quantities • Create, develop and use in-process test methods in order to guarantee repeatability and consistency of the process • Convert peptides into different salt forms and isolate them by lyophilization or other suitable technologies. • Document all practical work in a consistent and accurate manner. • Troubleshoot equipment and perform necessary maintenance work. • Evaluate new technologies and assess their usefulness for Jupiter's purposes and intentions • Interact with other people from different areas within the company and help out where needed Minimum requirements • Bachelors degree or higher in Chemical Engineering, Chemistry or Biochemistry • 3 to 5 years of practical, non-academic experience in purification of small molecules or peptides • Strong knowledge in chromatography and analytical technology • Peptide synthesis experience is desirable but not required Abilities required • Ability to work independent as well as in a team setting • Mechanical skills for troubleshooting and limited repair work • Ability to work with large quantities of solvents • Ability to perform hands-on work • Good communication skills |
