National Sales Manager-Microbiology


This position will develop business opportunities for microbial detection by managing existing strategic collaborations with clinical and veterinary clinicians to develop homebrew and seek appropriate regulatory and reimbursement approval for the MALDI Biotyper platform. Identifies and seeks out key collaborators and early adopters to increase market development for clinical sales of instruments and associated consumables.

Essential Responsibilities:

Uses knowledge of the industry and key contacts to introduce the biotyper technology to potential collaborators. Negotiate sales and placements of the biotyper with these scientists and assist in management of the collaborations to generate homebrew tests, tests for FDA approval, and high value reference sites. Develops business models for these collaborative efforts, and determines the appropriate level of regulatory approval and seeks this approval. Determines required reimbursement strategies and implements these strategies. Capitalizes on the tests and strategies developed in these collaborations to realize a solid sales pipeline for the MALDI Biotyper.

Works with the sales group to deliver seminars to appropriate audiences to increase product awareness and generate sales. With the support and approval of the marketing group, identifies important clinical and microbiological conferences to attend. Works with the applications group and product management worldwide, to insure that abstracts are submitted to obtain poster and oral presentations highlighting the unique capabilities of our products. Collaborates with the marketing group to insure a sales and marketing presence at these conferences and support the sales staff there. Uses own knowledge of key contacts in industry for market development and partners with inside sales to help the regional sales staff in pursuing qualified leads. Provides feed-back of trends in application, product uses, and competitive information from customers to market and sales management. Travels in support of sales cases, seminars and deliver presentations. Position will involve about 50% travel. Must maintain valid travel documents for both domestic and international travel.


Minimum Requirements:

B.S. or B.A. in microbiology or related field preferred. Five to ten years experience in sales and marketing of microbiological products to the clinical and environmental health markets required. Knowledge of regulatory and reimbursement strategies for microbial ID and AST products a major advantage. Extensive high level business and scientific contacts with access to key decision makers essential, along with excellent communication and presentation skills. Good team building skills required. Strong computer skills for generating high quality presentations, quotes contracts and agreements; plus demonstrating software.
