The Biodefense and Public Health Database (BioHealthBase) Bioinformatics Resource Center (BRC) provides a comprehensive genomic and proteomic data repository for five pathogenic organism groups that pose a threat to public health. The BioHealthBase BRC also provides an analysis platform and appropriate tools to facilitate genomic and proteomic study of these pathogens. The goal of the BioHealthBase BRC is to provide a resource to the scientific research community to facilitate the development of vaccines, diagnostics and therapeutics for these pathogens.
As a scientist interested in influenza surveillance, diagnostics, bioinformatics, and vaccine development, this is one of many sites that is jam packed with genomic bioinformatic info, tools, and vast databases on 5 of our most unpleasant pathogen and toxin residents: Influenza, Mycobacterium Tuberculosis, Francisella tularensis, Microsporidia, and Ricin.
I find this site extremely effective as its database is vast and the analysis tools act seamlessly on either site data or your own. It also 'syphons' NCBI's genbank making protein and genomic data mining more powerful.
All in all, this is a solid attempt to make this a all-in-one type interface that researchers can use as a foundation for their bioinformatical research efforts. It's awesome.
