Don studied Computer Science at the University of Oregon. For 40 years he worked for a Fortune 500 company, Beckman Coulter, becoming Vice President in charge of Beckman Coulter's global IT infrastructure and organization. He retired from Beckman Coulter then joining Scientist Solutions in 2006 as the CIO; Don also brings 2 years of internet start-up experience. During this two years with Scientist Solutions, Don was responsible for a face-lift of the web site and for taking the underlying infrastructure to a new level providing structure, discipline and a world-class operation.
JP Wang, Director
JP has a B.S. degree in Electronic Engineering from National Taiwan Ocean University and a Masters degree in Computer Engineering at Cal State Long Beach. He later founded Golden Star Technology, Inc. ("GST"), an IT solutions provider, in 1984 working initially out of his garage. Since then, the company has grown to become one of the largest privately owned IT solutions providers in Southern California with over $75 million in annual revenue. GST employs over 120 people and is based in Cerritos with branch offices in Miami, Redland and Riverside. In 1996, after 10 years in business, JP enrolled in the University of Southern California's Marshall School of Business and earned his MBA in 1998. This has enabled him to pursue and successfully implement new business initiatives to ensure GST's continued growth and success.
Alfred Herzing, Director Sales & Marketing
Alfred has a B.S. Degree is Electronic Engineering from California Polytechnic University, San Luis Obispo. He has worked for Fortune 500 companies such as Unocal and Beckman Coulter as well as small entrepreneurial businesses like Winston Tire. Alfred was the Executive Director of the Year 2000 Program Office at Unocal. Alfred's strengths include business management, program management, and oral and written communications. In 2001-2002 Alfred was the International President of Toastmasters International - leading this worldwide organization with over 200,000 members in 90 countries. As a communicator, Alfred has spoken to groups as big as 2,500 and from CEOs to line workers. He has presented to audiences in the United States and Canada, as well as Germany, Switzerland, The Philippines, Singapore, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Thailand, India, and Malaysia.

Biosketch
Dr. Shirlyn McKenzie is Distinguished Teaching Professor Emeritus and Chair Emeritus of the Department of Clinical Laboratory Science at the University of Texas Health Science Center, San Antonio. Under her guidance the Department developed into one of the leading clinical laboratory science departments in the United States. The Department was named as one of the top 10 CLS programs in research activity. In addition to writing many editorials, abstracts, papers and book chapters, she wrote several books including editor of the leading textbook, Clinical Laboratory Hematology which is in its second edition. She is a pioneer in designing Web-based courses having offered the first course on the UT Telecampus. She has given over 150 presentations at state, regional, national and international meetings. She was inducted into the University of Texas Academy of Health Science Education and the University's Academy of Master Teachers. She served as president of the American Society for Clinical Laboratory Science (ASCLS) and as a member of its Board of Directors. She received the ASCLS Sherwood Award in Education and the Sherwood Award in Hematology. In 2010, ASCLS selected her as Member of the Year in recognition of lifetime contributions to the profession.
Cathy Owen, CEO NanoPoint
Cathy is the CEO, President and Director of Nanopoint, Inc. a biotechnology company that develops and markets unique cellular imaging systems for the life sciences market. She has extensive experience establishing successful start-up companies. She brings more than 30 years of executive leadership, general business and entrepreneurial experience to Nanopoint, Inc. Her successful 21 year career at IBM and prior leadership of two early-stage information technology startup companies in Silicon Valley and Hawaii has helped to accelerate Nanopoint's business strategies and product plans. Ms. Owen raised the $2.15M Series A and $3.8M Series B financing, recruited an exceptional Hawaii management and engineering team, delivered the first live cell-based imaging products to customers in 2006, and developed the world's first time-lapse live cell imaging system launched in June 2008.
Gary Downey, Ph.D. Distinguished Professor Engineering, Virginia Tech
Trained as a mechanical engineer (B.S. Lehigh 1974) and cultural anthropologist (B.A. Lehigh 1974, M.A. 1977 Chicago, Ph.D. Chicago 1981), Dr. Downey is an Alumni Distinguished Professor of Science and Technology Studies and an affiliated faculty member in the Departments of Engineering Education and Sociology, as well as in the Women's Studies Program. He is author of The Machine in Me: An Anthropologist Sits Among Computer Engineers (Routledge 1998), co-editor of The Machine in Me: Anthropological Interventions in Emerging Sciences and Technology (School of American Research Press 1998), and co-developer of the multimedia textbook Engineering Cultures (Virginia Tech 2002). He is co-founder of the International Network for Engineering Studies and co-editor of its interdisciplinary journal Engineering Studies. He was Distinguished Lecturer at the 2006 Annual Meeting of the American Society for Engineering Education and Keynote Lecturer at the 7th World Congress of Chemical Engineering in 2005. He is winner of the 2004 William E. Wine Award for career excellence in teaching, 2003 XCaliber Award for high-quality instructional technology, and 1997 Diggs Teaching Scholar Award for original scholarship in teaching. His current research explores the influences of dominant images of progress on what counts as engineers and engineering knowledge in different countries.
Carol Foley, Ph.D. President Foley Research
Dr. Foley is a management consultant in market research and business development and is the founder and owner of the market research company, Foley Research Inc. Carol Foley received a PhD in 1977 from the University of Oregon in Educational Psychology. Currently she is a management consultant in market research and business development. Carol has an entrepreneurial background and she was responsible for R&D for a privately held healthcare company. As co-owner she directed new start-up business, wrote proposals for large contracts, recruited and trained new corporate management, and conducted market research on product opportunities. She has also been both a founder/manager and sat on boards of several organizations including a treatment center and school for troubled youth.
Christopher Druzgalski, Ph.D. Chair PAHCE, President ACSUP
Dr. Christopher Druzgalski is a Professor of Biomedical/Clinical and Electrical Engineering, President of ACSUP (Association of California State University Professors - an independent professional organization); Chair of Pan American Health Care Exchanges (PAHCE) which in cooperation with different international entities is linking health care needs across the continent, and Chair of IEEE LAC EMB. Also, he served as an Adjunct Faculty of Medicine, a member of the editorial boards and a reviewer. His current research interests focus on biosensors, pulmonary mechanics, telemedicine and Internet based technologies. He received a Fulbright Award to lecture in Brazil, as well as served as a consultant in China, Egypt, Honduras, Panama, and other countries. In addition, he lectured and gave keynote presentations, in other countries of Central and South America, Asia, and Europe besides US and Canada. He is actively involved in international professional activities and cooperative linkages.
