As we develop new methods to create more biologically relevant models for research in understanding disease etiology and innovating new treatment options, one of the most requested areas for educational materials is 3D cell models such as organoid and spheroid systems.

Thermo Fisher Scientific is proud to present our 5-part webinar series on Organoids, and more importantly, how you can get started, how to monitor and analyze 3D models and what to do with these once you have successfully cultured your organoid model of interest.

In this series we will specifically cover the following areas and after taking part in the presentations, hopefully you will be better equipped to answer the basic questions and feel enabled to get started using 3D culture systems.

  • February 20:  Choosing best system to answer your question - David Kuninger
    • Topics
      • What question are you looking to answer
      • Do you even need 3d? 2d vs 3d (Pro vs cons)
      • How do you choose the right system?
        • Selecting the right methods
        • Are you getting the right cell types at the end?

  • March 6:  Getting started in 3D - Speaker TBD
    • Topics
      • Setting up your lab
      • Getting the tools & reagents you need
      • Common problems people encounter when starting to culture in 3D
      • Available resources (from Thermo or elsewhere)
      • Basic culturing techniques

  • March 20:   Monitoring your culture (what’s good/bad) - Speaker TBD
    • Topics
      • How do you detect problems in your culture
      • What’s normal, what is abnormal
      • Common problems people are facing when growing 3D models
      • How to be patient with our organoid growth / strategies for successful growth

  • April 17:  You’ve cultured an organoid…now what? - Speaker TBD
    • Topics:
      • Overview of how organoid/spheroids are used to answer difficult questions are being used or applications that they are used in
      • A preview of where the field is heading
