Abstract

 

This webinar will provide an overview of the host response to bacterial and viral infections. The rationale for the use of procalcitonin in assessing the host response will be discussed, including distinguishing bacterial from nonbacterial infections. Finally, an overview will be provided on the role of procalcitonin in assessing the host response in emergency department patients with suspected COVID-19.

  • Describe and understand the rationale for the assessment of procalcitonin in patients with suspected infections.
  • Describe and understand approaches to assessing the host response to infection patients with suspected COVID-19 in the emergency department, including the role of procalcitonin.
