Abstract
Septicemia is a serious clinical condition with roundabout 123,000 cases of sepsis a year in England. In recent years there have been great advances in improving time to identification of pathogens causing sepsis. One of the key methods is the Bruker MBT Sepsityper® IVD Kit which can be used together with the MALDI Biotyper® for fast identification of causative pathogens from Positive Blood Cultures. This presentation looks at the clinical benefits of using the Bruker Sepsityper® solution to improve patient treatment and management. Although the Sepsityper® method has improved diagnosis, the initially introduced full extraction workflow could be further improved in terms of user intervention and reduced time to result. This investigation/presentation also looks at a validation of the new Rapid Sepsityper® workflow, which leads to a much shortened sample preparation procedure for identification of isolates from blood culture bottles, further reducing the time to diagnosis.
