Epstein-Barr virus (EBV), also known as human herpesvirus 4, is one of the nine types of human herpes viruses and it is the most common virus in humans. EPV is a double-stranded DNA virus that can cause diseases including mononucleosis. EBV is spread through bodily fluids, primarily saliva.
