Here's How Thoughts Work, and How Fast

Thoughts are something that we experience every single day. Sometimes, we force ourselves to think about something so that we can better understand something; other times, thoughts occur randomly without our intervention, which is known as daydreaming.

Thoughts happen inside of your brain, where billions of neurons interconnect with one another and swap chemicals. People of all different ages can process information, although it's typically those that are younger that experience the most complex and speediest thoughts.

But, have you ever stopped to think about how quickly thoughts move? Much like Internet data cables, thoughts have to move from one part of the brain to another. Neurons and axons work together to transmit this information as fast as 150 meters per second, as Discovery News reports.

Thinking about it, a very fast thought is a good thing because you want to be able to react quickly to reflex invocations, as well as decision making on a relatively quick scale. It is also possible to make thoughts faster by training your brain to think harder with brain games; this helps your brain to learn more shortcuts between neurons and can help it operate at peak efficiency.

The next time you think hard about something, just consider how quickly those thoughts are traveling.
