Why Are These Baby White Rhinos Making That Noise?
2 5 590

When you see a large animal, what you typically expect is a low-pitch, deep noise. But in the case of these baby white rhinos, you hear what sounds like a high pitch squealing and squeaking. But why?

As it turns out, baby white rhinos use this noise to alert their mothers when they are in need of being fed milk. Since white rhinos have some of the most advanced sound systems of any rhino species in the world, communicating with sound is an important way of communicating with one another.

They're not known for having the best eyesight in the animal kingdom, so the ability to develop these sound-making skills is something that will grow over time as the animals age, and it'll help them to survive.
