Eggshell is often considered a necessary obstacle to get to the egg. These parts are typically discarded without much thought. But if you're looking to add some calcium into your diet, don't be so quick to chuck it in the bin!
Scientists measured the calcium in the shell from a single chicken egg and found that it contained about 2 grams of calcium. That's about twice the daily recommended amount for an adult!
To take advantage of the shells, researchers suggest grinding up the fully cooked and baked shells into a fine powder. This can be added to bread, pizza, spaghetti, and other foods for an extra boost of calcium. Of note, don't go too crazy with the eggshell powder because too much calcium isn't a good thing either!
