Pampering Cancer Patients
2 1 130

When a cancer diagnosis is made, most people do not think about cosmetics and make-overs. The goal becomes how to best treat the disease and heal the body. However, along with cancer and illness come issues like hair loss, skin rashes and other alterations to the body that can leave patients, specifically women, feeling at a loss. One former cancer patient decided to do something about that.

Natalie Crawford was diagnosed with breast cancer extremely young. At only 28 years of age she lost her breasts, ovaries and hair to the disease. A trained make-up artist, she decided to offer other cancer patients make overs to hopefully improve their mood and self esteem. Cancer takes a huge toll and while appearances are not the first thing most patients consider, they do matter, especially when cancer can cause the lost of a breast, loss of fertility or loss of hair, all of which are tied up in a woman's self-esteem. Even just one day of beauty pampering and a supportive ear to talk about common experiences can help patients. The science and research behind finding a cure for cancer are vital, but somedays you just need a little mascara and some kind words.
