Got a Pickle Jar That Refuses to Open? Try These Methods
3 2 345

We've all been in that situation where we struggled to remove the lid from a brand new pickle jar, but just what makes it so difficult to get the top to come off?

When the manufacturer seals the pickle jar, an internal vacuum is created to prevent air from getting in. The vacuum keeps the food fresher for a longer period, and this same vacuum is what makes opening the jar such a hassle.

To break that seal, you need a good grip on the lid. You can effectively increase your grip on the jar's lid by introducing a high-friction layer, such as a rubber band, a rubber glove, or a layer of plastic wrap. Once you get a good grip, twist firmly.

Another thing you can try is using the power of thermal expansion, which involves heating up the metal lid to help it expand. You can accomplish this by holding the jar under hot water in a sink. The lid should be easier to remove after it expands.

If all else fails, you can resort to breaking the seal with other means. You might try tapping on the lid repeatedly with a wooden spoon or prying on the edge of the lid with a metal spoon to release the pressure inside.

Hopefully, once you've tried these methods, you're not still left with a sealed jar. If you are, you just might have to ask for some help...
