The Science of Tardigrades
4 8 553

Have you ever heard of a tardigrade before? It's perhaps one of the world's most durable life forms, and say they've survived the Earth's last four mass extinction events and will likely survive others to come.

You can find these things almost anywhere, and science has proven that they can withstand some of the world's harshest conditions imaginable.

Experimentation has shown that tardigrades can survive boiling water, outer space, lack of food and water, and more. In fact, scientists have even found some frozen in dormant states in ice for more than three decades, and they became active again once all the ice melted.

Even long after humans go extinct, tardigrades will probably stick around. There's a lot we could learn about these incredible life forms, so researchers will continue investigating what makes them so resilient.
