Many people find spending time with furry companions rewarding and therapeutic. The vibratory frequency of a cat purring has even been found to be healing to the body and soothing to the mind. Pets offer other pleasant experiences and sensations, such as soft fur, playtime, companionship and friendly, wagging tails.

A new robotic pillow named Qoobo has a tail that wags when the round "pet" cushion is given attention and at random intervals as well. Yukai Engineering of Japan designed Qoobo as a "therapeutic robot" and conveys in its marketing video that a wagging tail is "a communication tool that doesn't require words." Takashi Sagisaka, Yukai's CTO, says he has been observing the natural movements of cats and dogs as the guide for programming Qoobo's tail.

This cushy friend requires no food, walks or litter. Professor Nobuhiro Sakata of Dokkyo Medical University says it "brings a smile to his face," on the Qoobo Kickstarter page. This "tailed cushion that heals your heart" has an eight-hour battery life and will launch in the summer of 2018.
