    Biography
      Åke was born in 1953 in Stockholm, Sweden. He graduated from Uppsala University with a M.Sc. in Chemistry / Biology in 1978. He obtained his Ph.D. in veterinary medical chemistry at the Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences, in Uppsala, in 1982. He held a position as Research Associate at the Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences between 1982 and 1986, studying the molecular mechanisms of blood coagulation. He has published several papers on the interaction of the plasma protein inhibitor, antithrombin with heparin and coagulation enzymes. In 1987, Åke joined Pharmacia LKB Biotechnology, which later became GE, in Uppsala. Åke has held a number of different R&D positions in GE Healthcare Life Sciences, most recently as a Staff Scientist and now as Research Director. He has been involved in the development of a number of chromatography resins for protein separations and of the ÄKTATM chromatography systems product line.

    SEC is a versatile tool for protein analysis, such as monitoring protein prep quality, protein stability including aggregation, and protein-protein interactions.

    During this session, Dr Åke Danielsson will recap SEC fundamentals and share recommendations and tips that can significantly improve the outcome of your analytical SEC experiments. He will then focus on the use of agarose-based SEC resins for protein characterization. 

    During this session, you will learn: 

    • How to configure the liquid chromatography (LC) system for maximum resolution in SEC
    • How to choose the relevant SEC column for a particular separation
    • How agarose-based SEC resins are an important complement to silica-based resins
