      Belinda Yen-Lieberman, Ph.D., is a Professor of Pathology at the Cleveland Clinic Lerner College of Medicine. She is board certified in clinical virology (Am Society for Clinical Pathology). Dr. Yen-Lieberman received her Bachelor of Science degree in microbiology from Southern Illinois University and her Master of Science and Doctorate degrees in Immunology and biochemistry at the University of Arkansas, Fayetteville, Arkansas. She completed fellowships in clinical and cellular immunology at Case Western Reserve University and the Cleveland Clinic Foundation.

      Dr. Yen-Lieberman has authored over one hundred thirty articles for numerous medical journals on a wide range of topics involving viruses and infectious disease, including studies involving HIV, Hepatitis B , Hepatitis C and Influenza A vaccine, tests for herpes simplex types 1 and 2, and tuberculosis. For the past 24 years, she was the medical director of clinical and Molecular Virology and Serology in Department of Laboratory Medicine. Since July 2015, Dr. Yen-Lieberman is a contract staff in Lab Medicine and Center for Pediatric Research (as clinical virologist). She is responsible for teaching Pathology residents, medical students in CCLCM and students from Cleveland Clinic Medical Technology School. She also participates in various clinical trial studies and research projects including the role of respiratory viruses in childhood asthma.

        Alan H.B. Wu, Ph.D., DABCC, is Chief of Clinical Chemistry and Toxicology at San Francisco General Hospital Professor of Laboratory Medicine, University of California, San Francisco, and medical director for the Pharmacogenomics Laboratory. He received B.S. degrees in chemistry and biology at Purdue University, West Lafayette, Indiana, and a Ph.D. degree in analytical chemistry at the University of Illinois, Champaign-Urbana, Illinois. He completed a postdoctoral fellowship in clinical chemistry at Hartford Hospital. He is certified by the American Board of Clinical Chemistry in Clinical Chemistry and Toxicological Chemistry. His research interests include pharmacogenomics, clinical toxicology and cardiac biomarkers. Dr. Wu has over 400 publications in peer-reviewed journals. He has also written five paperback books consisting of short stories designed to promote the value of the clinical laboratory and pharmacogenomics to the general public.
      • Assistant Professor of Pathology, Assistant Director of Clinical Microbiology and Immunology Laboratories, The University of Chicago Medicine
          Vera Tesic, MD, MS, D (ABMM), works as an assistant professor of pathology and assistant medical director of clinical microbiology and immunology laboratories, at the University of Chicago Medicine, Chicago, Illinois. She completed her training in pathology at the University of Illinois at Chicago, followed by a fellowship in clinical microbiology at the University of Utah, ARUP Laboratories. Her areas of interest include application of new technologies into clinical laboratory practice and implementation of cost effective diagnostic tests for infectious diseases, with a particular focus on syphilis testing.

        Recently there has been a resurgence of Syphilis infections over the last several years with rates of new syphilis infections increasing particularly in high risk populations (i.e Men who have sex with men). Serologic tests in conjunction with clinical presentation remain the primary modes of diagnosing Syphilis infections. Several serology tests are commercially available including standard EIA/CLIA treponemal tests, manual non-treponemal tests, automated non-treponemal tests and finally a novel fully automated dual treponemal/non-treponemal multiplex test. The webinar will provide an overview of Syphilis clinical presentation, diagnostic methods, algorithms, and comparisons of current assay performance. The speakers will also present their performance data from evaluations of the new BioPlex 2200 Syphilis Total & RPR Assay and how this assay can be incorporated into your laboratory syphilis testing algorithm.
