Speakers
  • Senior Field Application Scientist, Bionano Genomics
    Biography
Dr. Ben Clifford is genomic scientist with interests across technology, people, and evolution. He completed his Ph.D. from the University of Notre Dame, USA, in 2016. There he studied genomic and regulatory divergence in arthropod groups undergoing speciation, enjoying teaching assistantship opportunities along the way. After finishing his doctorate, Ben joined Bionano Genomics in a technical support role. Now as a Senior Field Application Scientist, he serves as diplomatic and technical liaison for laboratories across North America. He onboards new researchers and facilitates discoveries with the Bionano platform. These strategic projects seek to enhance understanding of human structural variation, cancer biology, constitutional disorders, and characterize plant & animal genomes.
    • Sr. Director of Scientific Affairs & Marketing, Bionano Genomics
      Biography
Dr. Sven Bocklandt is a human geneticist with a background in gene discovery. He received his PhD from the University of Antwerp, Belgium, based on research on the genetic components of brain sexual differentiation performed at the National Cancer Institute, and at the University of California Los Angeles. As Director of Scientific Affairs and Marketing at Bionano Genomics, he focuses on the scientific discoveries made on the Bionano platform and on Bionano's performance in genetic disease and cancer diagnostics.

      Abstract
      DATE:  April 24, 2020
      TIME:  8:00am PT, 11:00am ET, 5:00pm CET

Accurate analysis of structural variants begins with isolating ultra-high molecular weight DNA. Obtaining high-quality UHMW DNA can present a challenge since sample collection, preservation, the DNA isolation process and subsequent handling of isolated DNA can significantly affect its quality.

In this webinar, Dr. Ben Clifford, Sr. Application Scientist at Bionano Genomics, will discuss tips and tricks for isolating high quality UHMW DNA - right from sample collection, preservation and gentle handling of isolated DNA to minimize shearing and fragmentation.

In addition, we will hear from Dr. Sven Bocklandt, Director of Scientific affairs at Bionano Genomics to walk us through genome imaging technology and workflow to demonstrate how it has been used successfully in studying structural variations in cancer and genetic diseases.

In this webinar, you can learn more about:
      • Understand sample selection and storage requirements of blood, cell, and tissue samples; for downstream ultra-high molecular weight DNA isolation
      • Learn how to detect novel genome-wide structural variants without any bias, using Bionano optical mapping with genome imaging

Webinars will be available for unlimited on-demand viewing after live event.

LabRoots is approved as a provider of continuing education programs in the clinical laboratory sciences by the ASCLS P.A.C.E. ® Program. By attending this webinar, you can earn 1 Continuing Education credit once you have viewed the webinar in its entirety.
