Savor the Flavor: Keeping Meat Products Safe with a Veterinary Drug Screening Comprehensive Workflow Solution

Speakers

Abstract

Veterinary drugs are commonly used chemicals to improve the growth and health outcomes of farm animals raised for human consumption. However, improper use of vet-drugs in animal farming can result in accumulation in animal-derived foods, causing adverse effects to its consumers. To combat adverse health effects and protect public health, global regulations define maximum residue limits (MRLs) for vet-drugs in food of animal origin. A major analytical tool for monitoring vet-drug MRLs is the triple quadrupole LC/MS (LC/TQ). However, despite significant advancements in instrumentation, development of a robust and reliable start-to-finish workflow for screening and quantitative analysis is still a challenge due to expertise needed in multiple topics. Generally, a full workflow requires expertise in sample preparation, instrument method development, and knowledge of sample reporting requirements. To address this, a complete and comprehensive LC/TQ analysis workflow solution is debuted. This workflow solution aims to lower the barrier to entry and enhance lab throughput tremendously by providing; pre-defined consumables, sample preparation methods, instrumental analysis methods, and results reporting to produce highly reproducible, robust, and sensitive analysis of 200+ multi-class veterinary drugs in various animal origin food matrices.
