But is that really the case? Does weed make you a better at your chosen craft, or is it an illusion? Can THC actually make your creativity worse?
More than half of all cannabis users said that they are more creative when they’re high, in one formal poll. They feel more inspired, they generate more ideas, they get better results.
But some data indicates that in users who ingest too much THC, their creativity plummets, according to another study. This group doesn’t want to do anything expect melt into the nearest couch.
Furthermore, that same study found that in some users, low potency weed doesn’t have any impact at all on creativity. These are also users who may feel minimal results from low dose cannabis overall.
From this data, one can most likely draw conclusions similar to those of other after effects of cannabis usage: A low dose, in some cases, may enhance performance of a given activity in some weed users, but not in others. A moderate dose may help further enhance or hinder a performance. A heavy dose will most likely result in a significantly diminished performance.
In addition, the user may be under the illusion that their creativity is boosted by using THC, especially the more they use. This belief is so common that the connection between creativity and weed has inspired an entire cottage industry of weed related art classes, writing retreats, music lessons, and more.
The best way that you can judge as to whether weed enhances your creativity? Judge the results of your work afterward, when you are stone cold sober.
