CBD and Covid

WRITTEN BY: Helaine Krysik

CBD has gotten increasingly popular over the last few years for all kinds of health remedies. These include easing anxiety, helping with sleep, and pain treatment. While much of this is still anecdotal, studies are on the increase to compile the hard data necessary to back up the claims so that they can be taken seriously.

One of the areas in which we’re now starting to see scientific data is in the positive links between CBD and Covid. What does that mean, exactly?

Researchers recently discovered that CBD establishes a protective effect against Covid. In their studies in human volunteers, CBD was highly effective in halting the spread of Covid. It was also successful in limiting the replicating of the virus.

The scientists involved in the studies stressed that while this data is extremely promising, it does not mean that over the counter CBD products are effective in combating the virus. They emphasized that consumers should not expect to be able to walk into their local dispensary and buy CBD effective in treating Covid.

The CBD they studied is pharmaceutical grade cannabidiol.

Furthermore, researchers added that this promising research is limited to CBD only. In fact, when they added THC to the mix with CBD, the THC lessened the effectiveness of the CBD in helping to halt and prevent the spread of Covid.

Lastly, scientists clarified that cannabinoids such as CBG and CBDA are not effective in preventing Covid. The promising results from this preliminary research are from that of CBD only.

This is an exciting breakthrough as we learn more about both CBD and Covid, and we should expect to see more details on this positive connection in the coming months. Just remember, do not go into your local dispensary thinking you’re going to buy over-the-counter CBD to treat a Covid infection. We’re not there quite yet.
