Get on the Bus, With All of Us

WRITTEN BY: Brenda Kelley Kim

The National Institute of Health has been rolling out their “All of Us” health initiative and that roll out is meant literally. The All of Us Bus is on tour throughout the country, bringing health information to as many communities as possible. The goal is to get one million Americans to share their health history, anonymously, so a database can be built of certain health conditions. In medicine, research is showing that the best way to treat disease is an individual approach, called Precision Medicine. Instead of a one size fits all model, health care should be personalized to each person. A treatment that works for one person, might not be the best option for another and getting as much information as possible will help fine tune health care.

The bus has been partnering with health agencies in the local communities it visits, to bring technology and information to areas that don’t have as many large medical centers and teaching hospitals. Including underserved areas as well as large metropolitan cities, makes the information collected more detailed and that detail will help researchers create the best treatment plans for each patient.
