Sleep gives the mind an opportunity to rest and the body an opportunity to heal itself. As humans we spend 1/3 of our lives sleeping and it is recommended to have at least 8 hours of sleep at night. However, we’re not getting enough of it. Sleep deprivation has a huge impact on our physical and emotional health. It is linked to poor work performance and mood disorder such as depression. Chronic sleep loss is also linked to heart disease, diabetes and obesity. Lack of sleep can even be deadly, it’s estimated that drowsy driving is responsible for 20 percent of all car crashes in the United States. For this reason, we’ve compiled the most shocking and interesting sleep facts.
