Coyotes On The Move in The Big Apple

WRITTEN BY: Brenda Kelley Kim
NYPD officers were dispatched to Battery Park in lower Manhattan on Saturday April 25, 2015 for reports of a female coyote on the loose.

The wily forest creature was able to outwit police and animal control officers for close to an hour before being captured near the seating area of an outdoor cafe. The coyote was tranquilized humanely and brought to an animal care facility. No injuries were reported.

Coyote sightings are on the increase in the Big Apple recently. Normally fond of heavily wooded areas away from people, or desert landscapes with speedy road birds to prey on, coyotes seem to be discovering the city that never sleeps. Like most tourists, they find it exhausting at times and lodging has probably carried a high price for the elusive tricksters.
