Many people don’t realize it, but animals can be particularly intelligent when it comes to matters of problem-solving.
In this video, we see a lone crow’s intellect being put to the test. The bird must use a short stick to snag three small stones out of cages, then drop those stones onto a weight-sensitive plate to disperse a longer stick, and then use that longer stick to fish a tasty treat out of a tight space; in that order.
The crow had been previously trained to perform these tasks with food as a reward, but only one-by-one. In this demonstration, the crow combines the tasks into one to achieve a greater reward.
At first, the crow appears to struggle with the process, but after taking a moment to think about the tools at hand, the crow appears to figure out what he must do to win the food.
