Deep sea ecosystems are some of the most mysterious and unexplored regions of the Earth that reside more than 650 feet below sea level while reaching depths of 36,000 feet. They are characterized by near-absolute darkness, extreme pressures totaling hundreds of times the pressure of the surface, and frigid temperatures ranging between 35-37 degrees Fahrenheit. Despite this harsh environment, many organisms have adapted and thrive in these regions, including Japanese spider crabs, giant isopods, common fangtooth, and anglerfish.
