United States astronaut Scott Kelly has been aboard the International Space Station for quite a while, and recently broke a United States astronaut record for the most days in space, but his reputation isn’t the only thing he’s got going for him as of late.
A recently-posted photograph on Twitter, from Kelly himself, of what the Earth looks like at night from above Southern India is getting a lot of controversy for a strange object that appears to be floating in the top right of the photograph’s frame.
The small object, which appears to be cut off at the top right corner appears to have two headlights and looks like an alien spaceship, but is it really a UFO? Probably not. In fact, if Kelly had seen something that interesting in the distance, he probably would have been focusing his camera at it instead of Southern India – it just makes more sense to put it that way.
More than likely, this is a piece of the International Space Station that got caught in the upper right corner of the photograph while getting his shot, whether it’s the tip of one of the International Space Station’s solar panels, which are used for powering it, or one of the International Space Station’s antennas, which are used for keeping in contact with Earth and searching for extraterrestrial signals.
Another photograph shared by Scott Kelly a few days later shows a similar object, although without light gleaming off of its surface. It's apparent that it's some sort of antenna from the International Space Station:
Despite all the controversy, which quickly began trending on Facebook over the weekend, NASA hasn’t stepped up with any official announcements yet, which is surprising.
