Biomedical researchers need and expect their scientific glassware to be safe, reliable and user-friendly. Foxx Life Sciences and Borosil Glass Works Ltd. have teamed up to introduce new PUREGRIP bottles and flasks with unique, strong and easy-to-grip caps and precise measurement calibration, among other useful features. They consider these the first significant development in glass reagent bottles for the lab community in about six decades.
“Both Foxx and Borosil are poised to achieve success on a global scale. PUREGRIP is the first of many synergistic products we plan to launch,” CEO of Foxx Life Sciences Thomas Taylor said. In April 2018, the two companies announced Foxx Life Sciences as the exclusive North American supplier for Borosil Glass Works lab glassware.
PUREGRIP bottles come with a patented VersaCap resin bottle cap that has a helpful protruding ridge. The ridge creates a secure and convenient gripping surface that allows users to safely and easily handle and transport the bottle, even with gloved hands and a wet bottle surface. The cap is easy-open and -close and has a large surface on which to write. The caps are made of animal-free polypropylene resin and offer the highest maximum operating temperature of any cap of their kind -- a polypropylene, or thermoplastic polymer, GL 45 millimeter cap.
Borosilicate glass reagent bottles play a vital role in the biomedical investigation community. Borosilicate glass contains boron trioxide and silica and is more resistant to thermal shock than most common types of glass. In weaker glass, thermal shock, in which changing temperature causes different parts of an object to expand to different degrees, can cause structural failures like cracks. PUREGRIP consists of low-expansion, highly durable borosilicate glass.
“PUREGRIP glass products undergo a specialized annealing process to assure they are free of residual stress and resistant to thermal shock up to 142 degrees C,” the companies explain. The new PUREGRIP glass vessels are described as “chemically inert, mechanically strong and resistant to attack from acids, salt solution and solvents.”
The containers’ volumetric gradations are applied using advanced calibration instruments and are individually certified as accurate. The products comply with international quality standards and can be sterilized and autoclaved, or sterilized with the use of high-pressure steam.
Their polypropylene pouring rings prevent dripping, and bottle sizes range from 100 milliliters to 20 liters. Flasks range from 250 milliliters to 5 liters. The bottles are advertised as affordable, and clear and amber glass varieties are available.
Borosil was originally formed by Corning, which later divested, and is the leading manufacturer of scientific glassware in India. It supplies over 2,000 products to biotechnology, pharmaceutical and chemical companies throughout Asia.
