NASA Releases SDO Video of Rare Double Eclipse

WRITTEN BY: Anthony Bouchard

NASA has captured a very interesting double eclipse from its solar dynamics observatory (SDO) and compiled a video out of the raw footage to share with the world.

In this spectacular event, which occurred on September 1st of this year, both the Earth and the Moon squeezed in between the Sun and SDO, making black shadows appear in the front of our star in the footage.

The Moon can be seen orbiting the Earth, trailing just behind Earth in the video.

In a statement, NASA explains that the Earth's edges are fuzzy-looking while the Moon's are crisp. This is because of the Earth's atmosphere distorting light from the Sun, while the Moon doesn't actually have an atmosphere.
