Do Diets Really Work?

WRITTEN BY: Anthony Bouchard

There are so many kinds of diets out there; some are high in protein, some limit your caloric intake, and others limit your carbs, but that's just the start of it. The big question you should be asking yourself is, "do these diets work?"

Let's just start by saying everybody is different. Depending on your body and your health, a different diet may be required. Some bodies need more protein, while others really need to be careful that they don't take in as much calories.

In some diets, the only rule is to take in a certain number of calories and to limit yourself to that numbers. While companies are going to tell you that you can eat anything you want to reach that caloric intake number, experts are going to tell you that you're better off eating something healthier for you, as you'll get your daily caloric intake from it, as well as important nutritional value.

Other diets limit carbs, which have their own side effects of their own. They may work better in the initial stages, but not so much as you continue on.

With all the different kinds of diets out there, perhaps a good rule of thumb is to stick with one initially. After you begin to see the results you're looking for, either stick to it, or enjoy other foods in moderation instead of binge-eating only the stuff that tastes good. After all, that would send you right back to square one.
