Helping Cancer Survivors Stay Fit

If you made a New Years resolution to get fit and lose weight, you are not alone. It's the most common resolution and it's why the gyms are all so crowded early in the year. It's hard to stay motivated though. While exercise is important for everyone, for cancer survivors, it's even more crucial to stay fit. A new study on exercise and cancer patients from the University of Wisconsin Carbone Cancer Center is looking at the popular fitness tracker bracelets to see if they help survivors stay on track

Research has shown that patients who stay physically active after diagnosis and treatment have better outcomes than patients who are not as active. The study in Wisconsin looked at those ever-present fitness bracelets that measure every step taken to see if they were helpful in keeping patients on track. A 12 week study that has volunteers wearing the devices and their activity being tracked directly to their medical records hopes to show that committing to a physical routine can have benefits beyond just weight loss, all the way to a protective effect against cancer.
