Balancing Cardio and Resistance Workouts

Doing cardio workouts on a regular basis is a great way to keep your body in shape and to encourage good cardiovascular health, but as one cardio scientist reveals, there is a right and a wrong time to perform your workouts.

Many have probably heard that it's a good idea to separate your workouts by doing your cardio workouts in the morning and your resistance workouts in the afternoon, but what if you're like most people and you don't have enough time in the day to work out twice... what should you do then?

According to this cardio scientist, if you have to go both cardio and resistance workouts in the same sitting, it's going to be better for your body if you do the resistance workout first and then the cardio workout second.

The reason for this is because resistance workouts take more of your energy and muscle glycogen than cardio workouts do, and it's best to do the harder of the two while your body is all stocked up.

Overall, you'll feel better with your workout in the end, but lab testing has shown that the differences in bodily results aren't huge. You could put the cardio workout first, but you might feel too tired to follow through with the resistance workout, whereas getting the harder workout done first leaves you with energy stored as fat to follow through with your run.
