This Man-Made Beehive is Every Bee-Keeper's Dream

WRITTEN BY: Anthony Bouchard

Collecting honey from beehives can be stressful and dangerous for not only the beekeeper but also for the bees. Not only does the beekeeper wear a sting-resistant suit to prevent injury, but they must be careful not to harm any bees while collecting the honey from the hive.

On the other hand, new emerging beehive technologies are now allowing beekeepers to extract honey from hives without clunky suits or the risk of harming the bees. It puts honey from the hive on a tap, allowing beekeepers to collect honey into jars safely.

The device works cleverly, forcing bees to complete a partial hexagonal honeycomb structure with wax. The operator can turn a key-actuated lever that breaks this structure, allowing any stored honey on the inside to flow down. The honeycombs can be reset for the bees to rebuild afterward, allowing the process to repeat.

No bees are harmed in the course of breaking the honeycombs, so this just might be one of the smartest inventions ever made for beekeepers.
