Here's How the Universe Might End

Have you ever stopped to wonder what the end of the universe might look like? Quantifying the end of the universe is difficult, but we have some idea of what to expect.

The universe is infinitely expanding and is vast in its current form, but it will run out of energy in the distant future, and everything will go dark. Fortunately, that'll never occur in your lifetime, and it will be an eternity before that ever happens.

Researchers theorize that galaxies will continue drifting apart from one another, and the stars in those galaxies will eventually fizzle out. Afterward, black holes will engulf any remaining matter, working like galactic vacuum cleaners to clean up everything the Big Bang created.

But black holes don't exist forever; at some point, they die too. When Hawking Radiation takes its effect, they begin losing mass before eventually disappearing into oblivion, taking everything they absorbed with it.

The universe will probably continue expanding even afterward, but it'll ultimately lack the energy needed to produce new stars and planets, resulting in a dark and lonely place where life can't exist.
