There is no question that there is an opioid addiction epidemic that is becoming a serious public health issue. In 2015 drug overdose is the leading cause of accidental death in the United States. The number of people addicted to and suffering from opioid abuse is skyrocketing with every passing year. Many companies have jumped on the marketing bandwagon of cures for addiction, but sadly, many of those promised remedies are not effective. While families and health care agencies struggle with the addiction epidemic, the false hope offered by some of the "cures" is even more heartbreaking for addicts and their loved ones.
The Federal Trade Commission (FTC) and the Federal Drug Administration (FDA) have both issued warnings to eleven companies that sell or market treatments for opioid addiction. In 2016 it's estimated that opioid addiction or abuse played a role in 42,000 deaths nationwide in the United States. The abuse issue is a problem that many are aware of, but false information on possible cures or treatments will only serve to make those who suffer more confused and will not lend any real help to the issue.
