Do our Genes Influence our Political Beliefs?

Scientists have been interested in understanding how our physiology shapes who we are for many years. Does our biology influence our opinions? 

Research indicates that our genetics may play a role in how we feel about politics. About sixty percent of our political beliefs can be traced back to environmental influences, according to one study. Forty percent remains; that may be a measure of the genetic contribution to our opinions. How? Genetic factors affect how we process information, and how our moods and impulses are regulated by neurotransmitters. And yes, research has shown that certain physiological traits are associated with political leanings. Learn more from the video.
