Explore a Human Cell with an Interactive Website

WRITTEN BY: Carmen Leitch

The Allen Institute is aiming to enhance our understanding of how human cells function. They have now introduced a great new way to explore the inside of them. It's been dubbed a visual guide for human cells and it's is also an interactive device. This video gives it a short introduction, and the tool can be accessed here

It was created when researchers painstakingly labeled structures in human induced pluripotent stem cells and then took images of them from every angle with high powered microscopes. The result is a useful device for seeing cellular behavior at every phase of mitosis. Structures have also been organized by their function, so it is easy to navigate through different parts of the cell.
