The Flu Season is in Full Swing

WRITTEN BY: Carmen Leitch

Flu season began last month, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). They estimate that the season will last for several weeks at least. Over the past few years, flu seasons have ranged from eleven to twenty weeks in length.

The CDC stated that it’s too soon to predict how severe this season will be. Seven children have died from the flu so far this year. The deaths have been associated with a multitude of strains, including “H1N1, H3N2 and influenza B virus infections.” The majority of pediatric deaths occur in kids that have not been vaccinated for the flu, and flu vaccinations have been linked to a lower risk of flu death, according to the CDC. It's not too late to get vaccinated.
