Here's Where Those Pesky Tonsil Stones Come From

WRITTEN BY: Anthony Bouchard

Have you ever had a tonsil stone before? You're not alone; in fact, they're pretty common. Nearly a quarter of the population is estimated to have them.

They raise a lot of side effects that can be unpleasant to the person who has them, such as pain, bad breath, and discomfort.

There are a lot of theories as to where they come from. Many scientists believe they are formed from food particles that get trapped in the bumpy tonsil crevices and calcify over time.

If caught early enough, they can be removed by hand without too much of a hassle. Larger ones can be treated with home remedies, such as salt water gargling or mouth wash.
