The Earth Would Be a Different Place if We Didn't Have the Moon

WRITTEN BY: Anthony Bouchard

It's a strange thing to think about, because it's been a part of our lives for as long as we can remember, but can you imagine how different the world would be if we didn't have the Moon orbiting our planet?

The Moon has effects on many parts of our world. It reflects sunlight to the Earth when the Sun is on the other side of the planet, giving at least some light to the dark side of the Earth while we sleep at night.

But the Moon does a lot of things, from controlling our tides, to lighting the way at night, to even helping with human evolution.

Without a Moon, humans may not have evolved the way we have today, tides would act very differently, and Earth days would be shorter than 24 hours. Since the moon provides gravitational friction, days might only last 6-8 hours, and we might have well over 1000 days in a year.

It's interesting to think about - that little rock in the sky that we take for granted has really given us a large part of our lives.
