Less Is More With Radiation Therapy

WRITTEN BY: Brenda Kelley Kim

Patients undergoing radiation treatment for breast cancer might have some good news. New research shows that shorter treatment cycles might be more effective. It's a medical form of "less is more" and patients will be glad to be done sooner. Smaller amounts of radiation over a shorter time period could reduce the side effects of skin damage and radiation burns.

When patients are treated for longer periods of time, toxicity is increased. This increased exposure isn't shown to be any more effective in some forms of breast cancer. The shorter treatment plan could wind up being easier on patients. Check out this video on the new information.
