New Concerns About Cell Phones and Cancer

WRITTEN BY: Brenda Kelley Kim

There have been concerns for years about cellphone use and cancer, but a new study might be lending some weight to those concerns. A study conducted at the U.S. National Toxicology Program showed that the radio frequency radiation emitted by cell phones may have been the cause behind rats exposed to it developing tumors in the brain and heart more frequently than those animals not exposed to cell phone radiation.

While the team conducting the research was quick to point out that much more work needs to be done, the results are troubling. The National Institutes of Health has stated that more research of this kind will be conducted in the future, but also cautioned that studies in rats do not always translate directly to humans.
