Foods That Boost Eye Health

WRITTEN BY: Julianne Chiaet

We've all heard that carrots boost eye health, but what other foods can keep your vision as sharp as possible?

Cold-water fish, like salmon, are rich in omega-3 fatty acids, which help protect against dry eyes and macular degeneration. Nuts, such as almonds, are also rich in omega-3.

Vegetables that contain lutein and zeaxanthin also help protect against macular degeneration and cataracts. Such vegetables include leafy greens, like spinach, collard greens, and kale; as well as broccoli and peas. Eggs contain provide a variety of nutrients, including lutein and vitamin A.

Vitamin A protects the eye's surface and reduces the risk infection. It protects against macular degeneration and, when in drops, can provide relief for dry eyes. Carrots provide vitamin A, vitamin C, and carotenoids, which helps decrease the risk of many eye diseases.

Citrus fruits, such as tangerines, are high in vitamin C, which also helps reduce the risk of cataracts and macular degeneration.
