Due to current laboratory staffing challenges, many medical laboratory professionals-particularly those early in their careers-may find it difficult to take on new management roles running operations in a coagulation clinical laboratory. In addition, laboratory operations could vary depending on whether the lab is part of an integrated health network (IHN) or a freestanding lab in a rural or other isolated setting. This webinar will cover all of the procedures needed for managing daily operations in a clinical coagulation lab, including the process of lot conversation, validation, verification, factor sensitivity, heparin sensitivity, and data analysis, as prescribed by the College of American Pathologists (CAP) checklist.

Learning objectives

  1. Present prework needed by laboratory management before beginning the coagulation reagent lot validation process.
  2. Discuss verification and use of PT/INR, APTT, and FGN for New lot validation studies.
  3. Identify process for determining factor sensitivity for coagulation screening reagents.
  4. Define allowable percent difference, total allowable error, and R values/Slope for acceptability
