Abstract

Laboratories are required to participate in proficiency testing (PT). PT is a powerful tool for laboratories to learn about their own testing performance and discover potential issues with testing methods. This sessions will review basic information on PT testing performance, regulations, classification of analytes, and analysis of results. Examples will be presented to show how proficiency testing has identified limitations with laboratory testing.

Learning Objectives:

  • Describe regulations related to proficiency testing, including regulated and graded analytes.
  • Discuss aspects to consider when reviewing proficiency testing results.
  • Illustrate examples were proficiency testing has identified issues with laboratory testing.
