Keeping Your Family Safe From Foodborne Illness

WRITTEN BY: Sarah Hertrich

Each year in the United States, 1 in 6 people will fall ill from foodborne illness. Food contamination can occur anywhere in the field from farm to fork. Contamination can occur on the farm (pre-harvest), during transport, processing, at the grocery store, or by food handlers in food service settings, or by the consumer in the home (post-harvest).

Consider the food safety tips discussed in this video to protect your family from foodborne illness as best as you can this year. Specific precautions should be taken when handling raw foods and using a thermometer is especially important to ensure food is cooked well enough to kill all potentially harmful bacteria.
