Yellow Fever is Spreading in Brazil

WRITTEN BY: Carmen Leitch

Yellow fever has been spreading in Brazil. People that are visiting some parts of the country, which are mentioned in the video, have been advised to get vaccinated for the illness. While some might shrug that warning off, ten unvaccinated travelers have gotten sick from the virus after traveling to those areas since January, and of those cases, four people died.

Yellow fever is transmitted by mosquitoes and is found in tropical areas. Mosquito repellent and protective clothing are some of the available preventive measures, but the best option is the vaccine, which is nearly one hundred percent effective.

The virus causes a range of symptoms, and is often mild, but can be deadly. Other than fever, infected people might experience fatigue, weakness, aches, chills, nausea, and vomiting. The treatment options only address the symptoms and don't cure the illness.
