Fossil
A fossil is any preserved remains, trace, or impression of any once-living organism from a past geologic age. Examples of fossils include exoskeletons, bones, shells, or stone imprints of animals or microbes. The totality of fossils is known as the fossil record. Credit: Shutterstock
