    Colonization of Mars

The colonization of Mars, or establishing self-sustaining, self-expanding human communities on Mars, has been proposed for a number of reasons including economic possibilities, decreasing the likelihood of human extinction, and research. High levels of radiation, toxic soil, and the distance of Mars from the Earth represent some of the many challenges that need to be overcome before humans can settle on Mars.
